‘Growing confidence’ – Man United and Mount optimistic third bid will be successful

There is a growing confidence from Manchester United that the club’s third offer for Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount will be accepted.

The two teams have been in negotiations over a deal for Mount, with the Red Devils having already seen two offers turned down. Chelsea have lowered their initial valuation of around £70m for Mount and United are confident the club’s latest offer will be successful.

Erik ten Hag’s team will submit a third and final proposal for the 24-year-old worth in excess of £55m. Fabrizio Romano is reporting that all parties are ‘being flexible’ in an effort to get a deal done for Mount, who has just a year to run on his contract at Stamford Bridge.

Mount has shown no indication that he is prepared to sign a new deal at Chelsea and the west Londoners run the risk of losing the England international on a free transfer next summer if a sale is not agreed.

Mount has made 195 appearances since progressing from Chelsea’s academy ranks, but suffered a downturn in performances last season after consecutive campaigns as the club’s Player of the Season.

The midfielder had starred during Chelsea’s run to Champions League success in 2021 and was one of just three Premier League players – alongside Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen – to record 10+ goals and 10+ assists in the division in 2021/22.
