Bayern Munich are ‘optimistic’ that the club can sign Harry Kane from Tottenham this summer.
Kane’s future has dominated the headlines in recent months with the forward set to enter the final season of his contract at Tottenham.
Several leading clubs have been linked with a move to sign the 29-year-old after a disappointing season for Spurs, who missed out on European football after the club’s lowest league finish since 2008/09.
Manchester United, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have all been credited with interest in Kane, but Sky Sports Germany are reporting that there is confidence from Bayern Munich that the Bundesliga champions can agree a deal.
Bayern have reportedly been given a ‘signal’ that the club are Kane’s preferred destination this summer, as the forward considers an exit from Spurs in search of elusive silverware.
The German side’s hierarchy are now understood to be ‘planning the next steps’ ahead of a bid for Kane and are ‘optimistic’ that a deal can be agreed for less than €100m (£85m).
Daniel Levy has insisted that Kane is not for sale despite his contract situation, but would prefer to sell the club’s record goalscorer to a foreign side. A departure would prevent the north Londoners from losing Kane on a free transfer next summer and provide substantial funds for new manager Ange Postecoglou in the transfer market.
Bayern view Kane as an ideal replacement for Robert Lewandowski, having failed to replace the Poland international with a like-for-like option at centre-forward after his departure to Barcelona last summer.
Bayern are also understood to be interested in signing Kane’s England team-mate, Kyle Walker. The Bavarians have made an approach to sign the right-back from Manchester City and are awaiting a decision from Walker, who has also been offered a new deal at the Etihad.
