Ruben Loftus-Cheek is closing in on a €20m move from Chelsea to AC Milan with the two clubs nearing an agreement on the deal.
Loftus-Cheek is set to leave Chelsea after almost two decades with the club and has agreed personal terms with Milan ahead of a move to Italy.
The 27-year-old has struggled to command a regular role in the Chelsea side since progressing from the club’s academy system and is understood to be ‘excited’ about the prospect of a new challenge in Milan.
Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Chelsea and Milan are close to reaching an agreement on a final fee, expected to be an initial €16m (£13.7m) with a further €4m (£3.4m) in add-ons.
Loftus-Cheek’s current contract is set to expire next summer and the midfielder is keen on an exit after making just 19 league starts last season, often in an unfamiliar wing-back role.
He will link up with former Chelsea team-mates Olivier Giroud and Fikayo Tomori at the San Siro and will hope that regular first-team football can help him win an England recall, having earned the last of his 10 caps for the Three Lions in November 2018.
Loftus-Cheek will add to Milan’s midfield options after the club agreed the €70m sale of Sandro Tonali to Newcastle, with the Italy international finalising a move to the Premier League.
