Benfica believe Man United are prepared to meet Goncalo Ramos buy-out clause

Benfica believe that Manchester United are prepared to meet Goncalo Ramos’ buy-out clause as the Red Devils look to sign a centre-forward.

Ramos is understood to be on a shortlist of centre-forward options for Erik ten Hag this summer after a brilliant breakthrough season at Benfica.

The 22-year-old scored 27 goals and provided 12 assists in 47 appearances for the Portuguese champions, having been given a regular role in the side following the departure of Darwin Nunez to Liverpool.

Ramos also impressed for Portugal at the World Cup in Qatar and scored a hat-trick in the last-16 win over Switzerland, becoming the first player in 33 years to score a treble in the knockout stages of the tournament.

According to Portuguese outlet Correio da Manha, via FourFourTwo, Benfica believe United are willing to meet Ramos’ release clause. The Portuguese champions have already turned down an offer of €60m including add-ons from an unnamed club and want around €80m (£69m) for Ramos.

United’s search for a centre-forward comes after an over-reliance on Marcus Rashford for goals last season.

Anthony Martial struggled for form and fitness, while Wout Weghorst has returned to Burnley after an underwhelming loan spell that saw the Dutchman fail to score in 17 league appearances. Paris Saint-Germain are also understood to be interested in signing Ramos this summer.
