Liverpool want to sign another midfielder this summer despite the arrivals of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.
Liverpool confirmed the signing of Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig on Sunday, with the Hungary captain having signed a long-term deal at Anfield. The 22-year-old became the Reds’ second signing of the summer transfer window, following the £35m arrival of Mac Allister from Brighton.
The new additions continue Jurgen Klopp’s overhaul of the engine room at Liverpool and the club are pressing ahead with plans to sign a third midfielder.
Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Liverpool are in the race to sign Romeo Lavia from Southampton, with the Belgian having also attracted interest from Arsenal and Chelsea.
Lavia impressed despite Southampton’s relegation from the Premier League last season and is on the radar of several leading clubs. The Saints are understood to value the 19-year-old at around £50m.
Liverpool are also interested in Nice midfielder Khéphren Thuram. The 22-year-old was named in the Ligue 1 Team of the Year last season and made his senior France debut in March.
Interest in Thuram could accelerate after France were eliminated from the u21 European Championship on Sunday, after a 3-1 defeat to Ukraine. Newcastle have also been linked with Thuram, who is valued at around £30m.
