Steven Gerrard interested in bringing Henderson and Aubameyang to Saudi League

Steven Gerrard is interested in bringing Jordan Henderson and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Saudi Arabia after being appointed as the new head coach of Al-Ettifaq.

Gerrard has accepted a two-year deal to take charge of the Saudi Pro League side and is preparing to launch moves to sign Premier League names in a bid to strengthen the squad.

TheĀ Daily Mail are reporting that Gerrard could target a deal for former Liverpool team-mate Jordan Henderson, though it remains to be seen whether the midfielder could be tempted to move to the Middle East.

Henderson is contracted at Liverpool until 2025, but the 33-year-old faces increased competition for a first-team place after the arrivals of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai this summer. It appears unlikely that Jurgen Klopp would want to lose the experience of the club captain however, following the exit of vice-captain James Milner earlier this summer.

Aubameyang is also being linked with a move to Saudi Arabia after a disappointing return to the Premier League at Chelsea. The 34-year-old is free to leave Chelsea after making just five league starts last season.

Gerrard has also been linked with moves to bring Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane to Al-Ettifaq, though the ex-Liverpool duo are ‘unlikely’ to move to Saudi Arabia this summer.

The nation’s domestic division has embarked on a remarkable recruitment drive to sign overseas talent this summer, with high-profile stars in Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante and Kalidou Koulibaly among those to have made the switch to Saudi.
