Chelsea linked with move to re-sign £38 million rated defender

Chelsea are being linked with a move to re-sign Tino Livramento from Southampton, in a deal that would see the right-back loaned back to the Saints.

Chelsea are considering an approach to sign the club’s former academy graduate, just two seasons after allowing Livramento to leave in an £8m deal.

The England u21 international shone during his debut season at Southampton in 2021/22, before sustaining a serious knee injury which curtailed his campaign and restricted Livramento to just two Premier League appearances last season.

Livramento has been subject of interest from Newcastle this week with Southampton having turned down two offers from the Magpies for the defender.

The first bid was for a fee of £12m and rejected, before Newcastle returned with an improved offer of around £21m. However, Southampton value the 20-year-old at £38m.

The Daily Mail are reporting that Chelsea – who included a sizeable sell-on percentage in Livramento’s sale – are keen to bring the defender back to the club and will allow the right-back to remain on loan at Southampton as the club look to bounce back from relegation to the Championship.

Chelsea’s interest comes despite the presence of Reece James at Stamford Bridge and the January addition of fellow right-back Malo Gusto from Lyon, who will link up with his new team-mates this summer.
