Man United enter the race to sign Romeo Lavia

Manchester United have entered the race to sign Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia, who is valued at £50m at St Mary’s.

Lavia was a standout performer despite Southampton’s relegation from the Premier League last season, with the teenager impressing during his debut campaign of top-flight football.

Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool are all understood to be considering approaches for the 19-year-old, who made 34 appearances in all competitions for the Saints last season and was handed his senior debut with Belgium in March.

Southampton value the midfielder at around £50m after an exciting emergence on the south coast, with the Times reporting that Manchester United are ready to rival the Premier League’s top teams in the race for Lavia.

Erik ten Hag has been focused on a deal to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea and could now pursue a move for Lavia, as the former closes in on a £60m move to Old Trafford.

Lavia signed for Southampton from Manchester City in a £12m deal last summer and the Premier League champions inserted a buy-back clause into the deal.

Pep Guardiola’s side have not yet shown interest in re-signing Lavia, despite withdrawing from the race to sign Declan Rice from West Ham. City will be entitled to 20% of any transfer fee for Lavia however, after inserting a sell-on clause in the deal that took the midfielder to Southampton 12 months ago.
