Manchester United have made an opening offer of €40m (£34.3m) for Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana.
Erik ten Hag has made Onana his first-choice target as the Red Devils look to sign a new goalkeeper this summer, having worked alongside the Cameroon international at Ajax.
Onana shone during an impressive debut campaign at Inter Milan last season after signing for the Italians on a free transfer from Ajax, with the 27-year-old instrumental in Inter’s run to the Champions League final.
Onana’s comfortability in possession and command of his penalty box is viewed as an upgrade on David de Gea, who is now a free agent after his contract at United expired on July 1.
Talks over a new deal for De Gea broke down as the Red Devils looked to agree an extension with the Spaniard on reduced terms and United are now prioritising the addition of a new number one.
Sky Sports Italy are reporting that United have now submitted an opening proposal for Onana worth €40m and the goalkeeper’s exit could provide Inter with funds to strengthen.
The Champions League finalists are interested in a deal to bring Romelu Lukaku back to the club on loan from Chelsea with an obligation to buy, while the club are competing with AC Milan and Roma for the signature of Sassuolo midfielder Davide Frattesi.
