Sofyan Amrabat among Man United’s midfield ‘options’

Sofyan Amrabat is one of the options Manchester United are considering in midfield, but the Fiorentina star is not viewed as a priority signing at this stage.

Amrabat has been linked with an exit from Fiorentina after entering the final 12 months of his deal with the Italian side and a number of top clubs across Europe are weighing up a move for the 26-year-old.

The Morocco international starred at the 2022 World Cup as the Atlas Lions became the first African team to reach the tournament’s semi-finals and Amrabat is on the radar of several sides in search of midfield bite.

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Manchester United are interested, though the club’s priorities are elsewhere at present. Erik ten Hag is closing in on the signing of goalkeeper Andre Onana from Inter Milan and will target a centre-forward once the Cameroonian’s arrival is finalised.

United want to sign a second midfielder following the arrival of Mason Mount from Chelsea, but interest in Amrabat will be dependent on transfer funds. The deal for Onana will take the club’s spending north of £100m this summer, before a centre-forward has been signed.

United could look to raise further funds through a number of sales, with Harry Maguire, Scott McTominay and Fred among those linked with an exit. The Red Devils will also hold talks with Nottingham Forest over the permanent sale of Dean Henderson this week and a deal for the goalkeeper is expected to accelerate once Onana’s move from Inter Milan is confirmed.
