Chelsea midfielder in ‘positive’ talks over West Ham switch

Conor Gallagher has held positive talks with West Ham over a move to the club from Chelsea.

Gallagher is on the club’s shortlist of midfield targets as West Ham look to replace Declan Rice, with the England international understood to be open to the move as he looks to secure regular first-team football.

Gallagher struggled to make an impression during a disappointing campaign for Chelsea last season, following his return from a successful loan spell at Crystal Palace.

The 23-year-old will be keen to secure a regular role this season as he looks to retain his place in the England squad and Sky Germany are reporting that Gallagher has held ‘positive talks’ with West Ham.

The transfer fee is expected to be in the region of £30m for Gallagher, who has also been linked with Borussia Dortmund. However, West Ham are understood to be ahead of the German side with negotiations between the London clubs ongoing.

Everton saw a bid turned down for Gallagher during the January transfer window, while Newcastle, Tottenham and Palace have also been credited with interest.
