Chelsea are interested in re-signing Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace after Wesley Fofana ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament.
Fofana is set to miss the majority of next season after undergoing reconstructive knee surgery this week, the latest setback for a defender who has struggled with serious fitness issues across the last two seasons.
Chelsea are now assessing the transfer market to reinforce their defence for the upcoming campaign and The Guardian are reporting that Guehi is a potential option.
The 23-year-old has impressed since leaving Chelsea for Crystal Palace in an £18m deal two seasons ago, with the centre-back having broken into the England set-up. Guehi is also favourite to be named as Crystal Palace captain ahead of the new Premier League campaign after wearing the armband for much of last season.
The Eagles would expect to make a ‘significant’ profit on the defender should Chelsea make an approach, while Tottenham and Arsenal have each tracked his development at Selhurst Park.
Guehi came through the academy system at Chelsea before departing for Palace in search of regular first-team football.
Despite contrasting speculation this week, Chelsea are not understood to be interested in signing Harry Maguire from Manchester United.
