Andre Onana will travel to the United States on Thursday to link up with Manchester United on the club’s pre-season tour, after signing his contract with the Premier League side.
United have agreed a deal to sign the goalkeeper from Inter Milan for a fee of €55m including add-ons and the Cameroon international completed medical tests at the club’s Carrington training base on Wednesday.
Onana has signed a a five-year deal with the option of a further year and The Athletic are reporting that the two clubs will sign the final details of the paperwork before the transfer is officially announced.
The 27-year-old will travel to New York on Thursday to join his new team-mates on their pre-season tour of the USA, as the Red Devils step up preparations for the new Premier League season. He could feature for the first time when United take on Arsenal in a friendly this weekend.
Onana’s arrival is a major boost to Erik ten Hag, who previously worked with the goalkeeper at Ajax. The Cameroonian will replace David de Gea as first-choice goalkeeper next season after the Spaniard departed as a free agent when his contract expired on July 1.
Onana impressed as Inter Milan reached the Champions League final last season, leading the competition for passes completed (407), saves (47), crosses stopped (14), clean sheets (8), and xG prevented (+7.6).
