Manchester United remain interested in a deal to sign Leon Goretzka with the Bayern Munich star ‘still on the list’ as the club target a new midfielder.
United have been linked with a move to sign Goretzka, whose position as first-choice at Bayern is uncertain following the signing of Konrad Laimer from RB Leipzig.
Thomas Tuchel criticised Goretzka’s form towards the end of last season and refused to confirm that the 28-year-old would remain with the Bundesliga champions beyond the summer, with suggestions Bayern would be open to bids in the region of £34m.
Sky Germany are reporting that Tuchel is planning to use Joshua Kimmich and Laimer as his first-choice midfield pairing next season, while Bayern are also interested in signing a more defensively-minded midfielder to add to their options.
Manchester United are monitoring the German’s situation, while West Ham have been linked with an ambitious move to sign Goretzka.
The former are hopeful of signing another midfielder once the club’s deal for Atalanta forward Rasmus Hojland is confirmed and the Red Devils have also been linked with Southampton’s Romeo Lavia and Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat.
