Mauricio Pochettino is hopeful that the injury to Christopher Nkunku is ‘nothing big’ after the summer signing was substituted during the first half of Chelsea’s friendly draw with Borussia Dortmund.
Nkunku was withdrawn after 20 minutes of the 1-1 draw with the Bundesliga side after going down in discomfort.
The France international has impressed during the club’s pre-season tour of the United States, scoring against Wrexham, Brighton and Fulham, after arriving from RB Leipzig in a £52m deal.
Pochettino is hopeful the issue is a minor problem for Nkunku ahead of the Premier League’s opening weekend next week.
“The doctors are checking him and I hope it is not a big issue. He fell in the action which was maybe a penalty and he feels something in his knee but we hope it is nothing big,” Pochettino said, as per the club’s official website.
“We hope he can be back quickly with the team. We need a few days to assess him.”
Chelsea begin their Premier League campaign against Liverpool on Sunday August 13th at Stamford Bridge.
