Manchester United working on exits of midfield pair

Manchester United are getting closer to offloading midfielders Donny van de Beek and Fred in the summer transfer window as manager Erik ten Hag continues revamping his squad.

The Red Devils ‘expect’ to sell Fred this week according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. It’s indicated that the Brazilian will ‘100% leave the club’ ahead of the new Premier League season.

Fred has been linked with moves to Fulham and Lazio, but recent reports suggest that Galatasaray could win the race to his signature.

The 30-year-old has entered the final year of his contract, meaning he can leave Manchester United on a free transfer next summer.

The arrival of Mason Mount and emergence of Stockport-born youngster Kobbie Mainoo have pushed Fred further down the pecking order. He is also competing for playing time with Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes, and Christian Eriksen, while Sofyan Amrabat has been linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Donny van de Beek, meanwhile, has little prospect of playing for Man United ever again and looks set to finally end his nightmare spell at the club. BBC Sport claim that Real Sociedad are ‘in talks’ with the player over a potential transfer.

The Dutchman, who United bought for £35m from Ajax three years ago, has failed to impress during his time in the Premier League.

It was thought that Ten Hag, who managed the player at Ajax, could rejuvenate Van de Beek’s career when he took the reigns last summer. But he managed just ten appearances in all competitions last season.
