Nottingham Forest ‘agreement’ opens door for next Arsenal transfer

Arsenal can now move on to one of the main transfer targets in the summer window after agreeing a deal with Nottingham Forest.

Matt Turner will join the Reds after the two clubs reached an ‘agreement’, according to The Athletic. The goalkeeper will undergo a medical on Monday before the transfer is officially announced.

It means that Arsenal can now give full attention to their pursuit of Brentford shot stopper David Raya, who has been heavily linked with a move across London.

The Bees have already rejected one approach from the Gunners, who submitted a bid worth up to £23m for the Spaniard.

Manager Thomas Frank previously said that the club would seek £40m for Raya, although it is expected that the transfer fee would be much lower than that figure.

A potential deal hinged on Arsenal being able to offload US international Turner, who struggled for gametime after joining the club last summer, to make room for a new goalkeeper.

Mikel Arteta wants Raya, who has also been linked with Bayern Munich, to compete with Aaron Ramsdale for the no.1 shirt this season. He has impressed between the sticks for Brentford since the club’s promotion two years ago, keeping 20 clean sheets in 62 top-flight appearances and maintaining a save percentage of 77.7 percent.

The Arsenal manager has said that he is “very happy” with the current makeup of his squad, but admits they are in the “process” of getting more deals done after signing Kai Havertz and Declan Rice in the summer transfer window.

Forest, meanwhile, are still trying to sign Dean Henderson from Manchester United. The 26-year-old spent last season on loan with the Midlands outfit, but an injury in the second half of the campaign limited him to just 18 appearances in the Premier League.
