Kylian Mbappe has been offered a new deal by Paris Saint-Germain which includes a transfer clause that would allow him to leave the club next summer.
PSG are keen to hold on to their star player for at least another season amid interest from Real Madrid and the Saudi Pro League. Al-Hilal submitted a transfer bid believed to be worth €300 million (£259m) in July, but the striker rejected the chance to move to the Gulf state.
The French outfit are hopeful that Mbappé will sign a new deal and have even gone as far as offering him a ‘guaranteed sale’ clause, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The clause would presumably ensure the club receive a transfer fee instead of letting him go for free when he does eventually leave.
Mbappe, however, has ‘rejected’ the offer and does not intend on signing a new deal. He will continue to train away from the main squad ahead of the new season.
The 24-year-old has the option to extend his contract beyond the 2024 expiry date by a further year. But in June he informed PSG he would not be taking up that option.
The latest developments will catch the attention of the Premier League’s biggest clubs, who could conceivably hijack a deal for the player when he is available on a free transfer next summer.
Liverpool have long been linked with Mbappe and it was claimed last month that they made a sensational loan offer for the player.
Manager Jurgen Klopp laughed off suggestions the club could sign Mbappé, however. “I can say that I think he’s a really good player, but the financial conditions don’t suit us at all. I wouldn’t like to ruin the story now, but as far as I know, there’s nothing to it.”
Chelsea and Barcelona have also been linked with a transfer for Mbappé, but he has his sights set firmly on Real Madrid.
