West Ham agree Harry Maguire fee with Manchester United

West Ham have agreed a £30m deal with Manchester United to sign England international Harry Maguire.

West Ham have been in negotiations with Manchester United over a deal for the defender and an agreement has now been reached over a fee.

The Hammers are prepared to pay £30m for the centre-back, who will be allowed to leave Old Trafford after struggling for regular first-team football last season.

Maguire made just eight starts in the Premier League and was removed as club captain earlier this summer, with Erik ten Hag deciding that Bruno Fernandes would captain the Red Devils for the upcoming campaign.

Maguire had been keen to remain at Manchester United, but The Athletic are reporting that the prospect of another season of limited game-time and losing his place in the England side ahead of next summer’s European Championship has proven ‘compelling’ in his decision.

Gareth Southgate had warned Maguire that he would need to be a regular to keep his place with the Three Lions and personal terms are not expected to be an issue between the defender and West Ham.

The deal will represent a welcome boost for David Moyes, with West Ham having so far failed to add to their squad despite the £105m sale of Declan Rice and exits of Gianluca Scamacca and Manuel Lanzini.
