Michael Owen has urged Harry Kane to turn down a move to Bayern Munich after Tottenham accepted a bid worth more than €100m for the forward.
Bayern have had a club-record offer accepted for Kane, with Spurs reluctantly agreeing a fee with the Bundesliga champions given the 30-year-old has entered the final 12 months of his contract in north London.
Kane has failed to win silverware in his career to date and move to Bayern would provide him with a greater chance of team honours.
The German giants won the Bundesliga for an 11th consecutive season last term, but former Liverpool and England forward Owen believes Bayern’s domestic dominance means winning trophies in Munich is ‘no great achievement’.
“I know Bayern are a massive club and I have huge respect for them but if I were Harry Kane I’d stay put,” Owen wrote on Twitter.
“There’s no great achievement in winning a trophy with them. Real Madrid I would understand. Or one or two top Premier League clubs for that matter. Becoming the all time Premier League top goal scorer at Tottenham is a bigger achievement than winning the league in a country dominated by one team.”
Kane is the second highest goalscorer in Premier League history, 48 goals behind Alan Shearer’s all-time record.
