Harry Kane is targeting Champions League success with Bayern Munich after completing a club record move to the Bundesliga champions.
Kane has signed for Bayern in a deal worth an initial €100m (£86.4m) plus add-ons and made his debut during the club’s 3-0 German Super Cup defeat against RB Leipzig on Saturday.
The 30-year-old has departed Tottenham as the club’s all-time record goalscorer, but is yet to win silverware in his career to date. The England captain is hopeful that the move to Bayern can take his game to the next level and put him in a position to challenge for major trophies.
“I’ve always wanted to push my limits and improve, and see how far that can take me,” Kane said at a press conference during his unveiling.
“Ultimately, I wanted to be playing at the highest level, to be playing in the Champions League, fighting for titles every year. Coming to Bayern, one of the biggest clubs in the world, gives me that opportunity.”
Bayern have been crowned champions in Germany for 11 consecutive seasons and Kane is confident the club can challenge on all fronts this season.
“Bayern have won the Bundesliga many times in a row but still the pressure of having to win it the next season is there. For me it’s to try and win every title we have this season. That’s the expectation of Bayern Munich.
“That’s the reality and the targets they want to set and I think they’re achievable so my job is to try and help make that happen.
“If we get to the end of the season and we haven’t won every trophy, the club will be a little disappointed but we know it’s going to be very tough to achieve as well so we aren’t taking anything for granted.
“This is my first time here so I just want to push the team to win the title and win the cup and try and win the Champions League as well.”
This season’s Champions League final will be held at Wembley and Kane admitted the prospect of a major European final back in London is added motivation ahead of the campaign.
“It is still quite a way away but for it to be at Wembley is exciting. I joined this club to have a good chance of winning the Champions League but for it to be at Wembley is amazing. Hopefully we can achieve that.”
