Moises Caicedo has called his move to Chelsea a ‘dream come true’ after completing a British record £115m transfer to the club.
Chelsea have confirmed the capture of the midfielder from Brighton in a record-breaking move, with the fee eclipsing the Premier League record £106.8m that Chelsea spent to sign Enzo Fernandez from Benfica in January.
Caicedo turned down an approach from Liverpool in favour of signing for the west Londoners, after Jurgen Klopp’s side had agreed a deal with Brighton last week.
The Ecuador international has expressed his delight at finalising a move to Chelsea and has called the transfer a ‘dream come true’.
“I am so happy to join Chelsea! I am so excited to be here at this big club and I didn’t have to think twice when Chelsea called me, I just knew I wanted to sign for the club,” he told the club’s official website.
“It’s a dream come true to be here and I can’t wait to get started with the team.”
Caicedo arrives with a growing reputation after impressing as Brighton secured a top-six finish last season. The 21-year-old ranked second in the Premier League for both tackles and interceptions, as the Seagulls secured European football for the first time in their history.
He becomes the fourth most expensive footballer in history, having signed for Brighton for a fee of just £4.5m in January 2021.
