Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber is set to undergo surgery after sustaining an ACL injury during the club’s 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest.
Timber’s debut for the Gunners was cut short after suffering a knee injury at the Emirates on Sunday and scans have now revealed the extent of the issue.
The Dutch defender is facing a significant period on the sidelines after tests revealed he has sustained an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament, with Timber set for several months of rehabilitation.
The news comes as a major blow to Mikel Arteta after the defender’s strong start in north London, since signing from Ajax in a £38m deal during the summer.
“Further to detailed assessments with consultant specialists since Saturday, we can confirm that Jurrien Timber has sustained an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee,” Arsenal confirmed on the club’s official website.
“Jurrien will undergo surgery in the coming days and will be out of action for a period of time.
“The support and expertise from our medical team and everyone at the club will now be focussed on Jurrien’s rehabilitation programme, to ensure he recovers well and is back playing as soon as possible.”
