Liverpool have made contact with Fiorentina to discuss the conditions of a potential deal for midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.
Liverpool want to sign a new defensive midfielder before the transfer deadline, after failed bids to sign Brighton’s Moises Caicedo – who has since joined Chelsea in a British record deal – and Southampton teenager Romeo Lavia.
Amrabat is understood to be a name on the Reds’ radar and Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Liverpool are ‘informed’ on the conditions of a deal. Manchester United have also been linked with the 26-year-old who has entered the final 12 months of his deal with the Serie A side.
Amrabat impressed as Morocco became the first African nation to reach the World Cup semi-finals in 2022 and formed part of the Fiorentina team that reached the Coppa Italia and Europa Conference League finals last season.
Liverpool have not made a decision on their preferred target and are understood to be assessing the market, with a number of names at the centre of the club’s internal discussions.
The Reds are seeking a defensive-minded midfielder after the sales of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson to Saudi Pro League sides this summer.
Liverpool have also been linked with Fulham’s Joao Palhinha, PSV Eindhoven’s Ibrahima Sangare and Crystal Palace midfielder Cheick Doucouré.
