Pavard deal unlikely for Man United as Maguire move collapses

Manchester United are unlikely to pursue a deal to sign Benjamin Pavard from Bayern Munich after Harry Maguire’s move to West Ham collapsed.

Erik ten Hag had been linked with a move to sign Pavard and the Red Devils are understood to have held initial talks with Bayern, but a deal is now complicated after the sale of Maguire failed to materialise.

United had agreed a £30m fee with West Ham for the former club captain, but the transfer has now collapsed amid delays to the deal.

West Ham are understood to have grown frustrated with the delay as Maguire sought a payoff from United and are now considering alternatives, with Bayer Leverkusen duo Jonathan Tah and Odilon Kossounou on the club’s radar.

According to Sky Sports, the implications of the collapse are that United will no longer push for a deal to sign Pavard.

The France international had been one of the names on Ten Hag’s shortlist to replace Maguire, alongside Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo, and had been keen on the move to the Premier League.

Should Maguire remain, United are well stocked at centre-back with Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof options for Ten Hag, while Luke Shaw has also deputised in central defence on occasion.
