Inter Milan are in a ‘good position’ to sign Benjamin Pavard after the club’s chief executive confirmed interest in signing the Bayern Munich defender.
Pavard is keen to leave Bayern Munich in search of a new challenge and has been on the radar of a number of Premier League clubs, with both Manchester United and Arsenal credited with interest in the France international in recent weeks.
Inter now appear to have moved ahead of the Premier League competition in the race for Pavard, with CEO Giuseppe Marotta having revealed this week that negotiations had taken place.
“Pavard? Deal on. We are still negotiating with Bayern,” Marotta told Sky Sports Italia.
“The player’s will is crucial and he wants to join Inter. Bayern need a replacement to let him leave, this is the issue. But talks are ongoing.”
Marotta had now provided a further update on the club’s pursuit of Pavard and said Inter are in a ‘good position’ to conclude a deal.
“We won’t announce Benjamin Pavard as new signing today but… we’re in good position,” he said, as per Fabrizio Romano.
“We’re doing our best to sign Pavard, we are ambitious. It’s not an illusion, we feel we can make it happen”.
Manchester United’s move for Pavard stalled after the collapse of Harry Maguire’s move to West Ham, lessening the club’s need for defensive reinforcements.
Meanwhile, Arsenal had been linked with a move for the World Cup winner after Jurrien Timber was sidelined for an extender period. The summer signing has undergone surgery after sustaining an ACL injury on the Premier League’s opening weekend.
Bayern will want to sign a replacement before allowing Pavard to leave, having sanctioned the loan exit of right-back Josip Stanišić to Bayer Leverkusen.
