Erik ten Hag was pleased with the character his side showed as Manchester United came from two goals down to beat Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford.
United endured a disastrous start to the game as Taiwo Awoniyi and Willy Bolly put Forest 2-0 ahead inside the opening four minutes, but the Red Devils responded to claim all three points.
Christian Eriksen pulled a goal back and Casemiro bundled home an equaliser, before Bruno Fernandes kept his cool to convert from the penalty spot after Marcus Rashford had been brought down.
Ten Hag criticised his side’s ‘easy give-aways’ in a nightmare start against Forest – who were later reduced to 10 men when Joe Worrall was sent off – but praised the composure of his team to turn the game around.
“Horror start, but the character of the team was brilliant. We stayed so calm and so composed,” Ten Hag told BBC Match of the Day.
“We stuck to our belief, stuck to our plan, played some good football and scored three good goals. It was a great comeback.
“With all respect to Forest, we can’t allow them [those goals]. They were easy give-aways. It’s crazy, but sometimes games go like this. As I said, we stayed calm.
“It’s a marker, absolutely. We’ve seen this team can bounce back. If you have such a start, you need to get over it. It’s not easy, but compliments to the team.
“We have the personality. In certain moments we can definitely improve, but in general this team has the character to bounce back all the time.”
