Levi Colwill says Moises Caicedo is ‘worth every pound’ after Chelsea spent a British record £115m to sign the midfielder from Brighton.
Caicedo made his first start for Chelsea during the club’s 3-0 win over Luton Town on Friday evening, following the midfielder’s record-breaking arrival at Stamford Bridge.
Colwill played alongside Caicedo during his season-long loan spell at Brighton last season and is delighted to have reunited with the Ecuadorian in a Chelsea shirt.
The defender believes Caicedo will prove to be ‘worth every pound’ of the club’s investment and has backed the 21-year-old to become ‘one of the best midfielders in the world’.
“Playing with him last season you just rely on him,” Colwill told Chelsea’s official website.
“Even when I know I have made a mistake, I have always known he is there to cover me in midfield. Some of the passes I gave to him [last season] were terrible and he still saved me and made me look good!
“I think anyone that watched him last season knows how good a player he is. In my opinion, he is worth every pound that was spent on him. I think he is going to be one of the best midfielders in the Premier League and the world. I don’t doubt that.
“He is a very good player and him in this team alongside the other amazing players we have got, it is going to work well. I am happy he is here.”
