Liverpool have ‘no intention’ of selling Joe Gomez amid reports linking him with transfers to West Ham United and the Saudi Pro League.
The centre-back has been put ‘very high’ on Al-Ittihad’s list of defensive transfer targets, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Gomez is also on West Ham’s radar, according to The Times. But Romano reports that Liverpool do not want to sell any of their ‘important players’ before the Premier League’s transfer window closes on Friday night.
The 26-year-old came off the bench during Sunday’s 2-1 win over Newcastle United at St James Park after Virgil van Dijk was sent off. Gomez is willing to fight for his place in the team, but finds himself fourth in the pecking order behind Van Dijk, Joel Matip and Ibrahim Konate.
Al-Ittihad are also interested in signing Mo Salah in a massive deal worth £128m, although the Saudi Pro League outfit are yet to make a formal offer for the attacker.
Saudi Arabia’s transfer window closes on September 20, although the deadline to for new signings is effectively September 7 as that is the date by which clubs have to register players.
Earlier this month Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp suggested that regulations needed to be put in place to curb the spending of “endless money”.
“As a normal club it’s difficult to catch up with other teams,” the German told the media.
“I don’t blame anyone but that’s how it is. Saudi Arabia also doesn’t make it easy. Our window shuts next month but other windows stay open.
“The endless money causes a problem, that’s how it is. What can we do now? It would be cool if someone could find a solution or regulations, I don’t know.”
