Manchester United have signed two defenders on transfer deadline day amid an injury crisis at the back.
Sergio Reguilon has joined the club on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur. There is no option or obligation to buy, and there is also a break clause in January.
Man United will cover the player’s wages for the duration of his stay at Old Trafford. The Spaniard comes in as left-back cover with both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia on the treatment table.
The Red Devils also announced the signing of free agent Jonny Evans, who returns to the club where he first broke through as a youngster. He won three Premier League titles and the Uefa Champions League with the club.
The 35-year-old centre-back has been training with Man United throughout the summer after leaving Leicester City at the end of last season.
“I am delighted to join Manchester United, a place which has always felt like home,” Evans said. “This club and the fans have shaped me as a player and as a person since I was 15 years old, and I am delighted to be back where it all began as part of this talented squad.”
“I’ve really enjoyed working under the manager and his coaching staff since the start of pre-season, and I’m looking forward to helping this group achieve success together at this fantastic football club.”
Man United also signed Turkey goalkeeper Altay Bayindir from Fenerbahce for £4.3m earlier in the day.
