Declan Rice has called his first goal for Arsenal ‘special’ after the midfielder scored a stoppage-time winner against Manchester United.
Rice scored a dramatic late goal as Arsenal came from behind to beat Manchester United 3-1 in north London, with the Gunners scoring twice in stoppage time to claim all three points.
Martin Odegaard had equalised for Arsenal after Marcus Rashford’s opener for the visitors, before Rice fired in a deflected effort under Andre Onana to spark wild celebrations at the Emirates. Gabriel Jesus added a third moments later for the Gunners and Rice reflected on a big win.
“I think if we are being honest, Man City have won four out of four. If we didn’t win today, we would have been five points behind,” Rice told Sky Sports.
“To win that today was a must-win. To start with a couple of wins and a draw is good.”
Rice’s goal was his first since completing a club-record £105m move from West Ham during the summer and the England midfielder admitted it was a ‘special’ moment to open his account with a winning goal.
“It is so special. Just to see it again. Like I said, I can’t control the price. But when I came here I tried as much as possible to block that out and I want to be consistent. I have started life at Arsenal well but I have so much more I can do.”
