Man United and Spurs target set to sign new Leverkusen deal

Edmond Tapsoba is set to sign a new contract at Bayer Leverkusen despite reported interest in the centre-back from Manchester United and Spurs.

The 24-year-old is understood to have been on the radar of both Manchester United and Spurs during the summer transfer window, as each considered moves for left-sided central defenders.

However, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tapsoba is set to pen a new deal with the Bundesliga side that will run until 2028, ending speculation surrounding his future in Leverkusen.

Tapsoba has impressed across three seasons at Bayer Leverkusen and was among the most progressive centre-backs in Europe’s top five leagues last season, ranking in the top six percent of all central defenders for progressive passes, progressive carries and successful take-ons per 90 minutes.

His decision to sign a new deal will be a major boost to Xabi Alonso and Leverkusen, who have started the new Bundesliga campaign in impressive fashion and lead the table after three wins from three games.

Alonso’s free-scoring side have scored 11 times in their three fixtures to date, including a 5-1 win over Darmstadt on Saturday.
