Fluminense president Mario Bittencourt has revealed that Liverpool approached the club regarding a deal to sign midfielder Andre during the summer.
Liverpool were linked with a move to sign the 22-year-old as Jurgen Klopp overhauled his midfield options, with the Premier League side targeting a deal for Andre, who made his debut for the senior Brazil side earlier this year.
The defensive midfielder was also named in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A Team of the Year in 2022 and Fluminense were reluctant to discuss a deal until the end of their campaign in December.
Bittencourt has said that he rejected an approach from Liverpool, but suggested an agreement could be reached should the Reds return with renewed interest this winter.
“Liverpool contacted me directly for André,” Bittencourt said, as per Fabrizio Romano.
“I told their director: my friend, I don’t sell André now. If you want to buy now to bring him in January, we can start talking. Or if you want to wait until December, we can do it.”
Liverpool completed a deal to sign Ryan Gravenberch from Bayern Munich on transfer deadline day, the club’s fourth midfield recruit of the summer after the arrivals of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo.
