Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admitted that his side were “really bad” in the first half of their win over Wolves at Molineux on Saturday, but was pleased with how they bounced back after the interval.
Hwang Hee-chan gave the hosts an early lead, but goals from Cody Gakpo, Andy Robertson and a Hugo Bueno own goal handed the Reds a 3-1 win.
“The good thing about the first half is that it was so bad we couldn’t play that bad in the second half,” Klopp told TNT Sports.
“We had low energy level, some others as well. We changed the system and one player and it was a bit more speed up front, natural speed. We controlled the game better. We changed everything at half-time.
“The first half was really bad, the second half was really good. A massive three points. The truth as well is Wolves caused us so many problems. We were not able to close the gaps.”
Wolves outperformed the visitors in the opening half and got off to the perfect start when Hwang converted Pedro Neto’s cross inside the first seven minutes.
Liverpool were a much improved side right from the off in the second half and equalised soon after when Mo Salah knocked the ball across the goalmouth for Cody Gakpo to tap in
The Egyptian turned provider once again when he combined with Andy Robertson to give Liverpool the lead with just over five minutes left on the clock.
The game was put to bed in injury time when substitute Elliott was played through on goal by Salah, and his shot was diverted into the goal by Bueno.
