Liverpool were “poor” in the first half against Wolves at Molineux on Saturday, admitted Andy Robertson.
The left-back scored one of his side’s three goals as they maintained their unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign, beating the hosts 3-1.
But the Reds went behind early after Hwang Hee-chan scored in the seventh minute and looked sluggish through the opening 45 minutes.
“We were poor, too many mistakes,” Robertson told BBC Match Of the Day. “It was a poor performance all round. We were well below our standard.
“I think the second half we came out with new confidence, played some easy quick passes. I think after the second half the result was about right.”
Robertson’s comments echo those made by his manager, Jurgen Klopp, after the final whistle. The German told TNT Sports that “the first half was really bad, the second half was really good.”
Klopp changed things up at the half, taking Alexis Mac Allister off for Luis Diaz, and Liverpool were a different side after the break. After Cody Gakpo grabbed an equaliser ten minutes later, he immediately made a double switch, swapping the Dutchman and Diogo Jota for Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott.
Liverpool went on to dominate the second half, with Robertson putting them ahead before Elliott’s injury-time shot was diverted into the goal by Wolves defender Hugo Bueno.
“I think we changed a lot at half-time, not just personnel,” Robertson said. “We can come up with excuses for the first half, like the international break and people were travelling, but we made mistakes which we are not used to making. I thought the second half performance was impressive and we got what we deserved.”
