Pochettino calls for ‘efficiency in front of goal’ after Chelsea draw at Bournemouth

Mauricio Pochettino has called for greater ‘efficiency in front of goal’ from Chelsea after the club’s goalless draw at Bournemouth.

Chelsea have won just one of their opening five games of the Premier League season after a goalless draw with the Cherries, with the west Londoners failing to find a breakthrough as Nicolas Jackson and Raheem Sterling each hit the woodwork.

Levi Colwill also saw a goal disallowed for Chelsea, whose five goals so far this season is their lowest return after five Premier League games since 1995/96.

Pochettino praised the effort from his players but admits Chelsea must find a more clinical touch around goal.

“I cannot say that I am happy but it was a very competitive game. I think we deserved more, we deserved to win. We created good chances and in the first half after 20, 30 matches I think we created many chances and didn’t score,” he told Sky Sports.

“With 12 injuries and only three players that started today who were with us for these two weeks I think I need only need to say it was a really good effort from the team.

“I think we need to be tough in the way that we are trying. We need to prove our efficiency in front of goal,” Pochettino added on his side’s missed chances.

“We need to be calm also but these circumstances are not always easy for the players. We cannot blame anyone.

“In the last 10 minutes out full-backs and some defensive players wanted to do the jobs of the offensive players. Sometimes we couldn’t risk the point.

“I prefer that to being relaxed and calm. They care a lot about the game and situation. The effort was really good.”
