Gabriel Martinelli is a doubt for Arsenal’s North London derby clash with Tottenham after sustaining a hamstring injury at Everton last weekend.
Martinelli was substituted in the first half of Arsenal’s 1-0 win at Everton on Sunday after pulling up with a hamstring issue at Goodison Park.
The Brazil international has been ruled out of Arsenal’s UEFA Champions League group stage opener against PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday evening and is now a major doubt to face Tottenham in the Premier League this weekend.
Arsenal host their north London neighbours on Sunday with both teams in fine form, having made unbeaten starts to the Premier League season.
Speaking at pre-match press conference ahead of the fixture with PSV, Mikel Arteta said Arsenal were assessing the extent of Martinelli’s injury.
“He felt something in his hamstring and we need to do some further tests to assess if there is any big damage or not but he will be out for tomorrow’s game, that’s for sure,” Arteta said.
On whether he’ll be fit for the Tottenham game, the Spaniard added: “It’s a possibility but we don’t know yet. We need some more tests and see what happens.”
