Onana ‘confident’ Man United can turn form around

Andre Onana is confident that Manchester United can turn their form around after a challenging start to the new season.

Erik ten Hag’s team have lost three of their opening five Premier League fixtures and next face Bayern Munich in their UEFA Champions League group stage opener at the Allianz Arena.

Onana signed for the Red Devils from Inter Milan during the summer and has made a mixed start to his own career with the club, having signed in £47.2m deal to replace David de Gea as the club’s first choice goalkeeper.

The 27-year-old has opened up on his start in English football and said that is confident in both himself and the team to improve on recent performances.

“Well, I’m a very passionate player and I demand a lot from my players and my defenders. But like I always said, we are in this together,” Onana said at a pre-match press conference ahead of the fixture with Bayern.

“Being part of this big club is something great. Manchester United is an amazing club, it’s huge. I am happy to be here. Replacing David is not something easy. I try to do my best of course. The start of the season is not what we want, but we believe better will come, the situation will turn and I am very confident. I know everything will be alright.”

Onana arrived with a reputation for being comfortable with the ball at his feet, but the Cameroon international insists there is more to his game than his distribution.

“Well, I don’t think I’m here because of my ability with my feet! My history speaks for me. But like I always say, the most important thing is the team.

“We are here to win and I have to adapt myself with the team. If the team needs me to be good with the feet, I will be good with the feet. If the team is playing with a low block or we are playing higher, depending on the situation, I’m goalkeeper first of all. I have to save balls. That’s why I’m here.”
