Onana makes honest admission after Bayern blunder

Andre Onana admits he has ‘a lot to prove’ at Manchester United after the goalkeeper’s mistake in the club’s 4-3 defeat to Bayern Munich.

Manchester United opened their Champions League campaign with an entertaining loss to the Bundesliga champions, with Onana at fault for the opening goal after allowing a tame shot from Leroy Sane to squirm under his grasp.

The error continued an unconvincing start for the Cameroon goalkeeper at Old Trafford, following his £47.2m move to the Red Devils from Inter Milan.

Onana conceded his ‘start in Manchester hasn’t been so good’, but is keen to learn from his Bayern blunder as Erik ten Hag’s team look to bounce back from a challenging start to the campaign.

“It’s difficult. We started very good. After my mistake we lost control of the game. It’s a difficult situation for us, for me,” the goalkeeper told TNT Sports.

“The team were one down because of that mistake. I have to learn from it and be strong. I’m happy with the comeback of the team.

“I have a lot to prove. My start in Manchester hasn’t been so good, not how I want. This was one of my worst games. We have big ambition.

“It’s a tough time. We have to be together and work hard.”
