Mikel Arteta says Martin Odegaard is ‘loved’ at Arsenal after the midfielder committed his future to the club by signing a new deal.
Odegaard has signed a new long-term contract with the Gunners, the latest key figure to extend their deal with the north Londoners.
The Norway international scored 15 goals in the Premier League during an impressive campaign last season, one which saw Odegaard named as Arsenal’s Player of the Season.
The 24-year-old has evolved into one of the Premier League’s top talents since signing for Arsenal from Real Madrid and Arteta is delighted that the club captain has signed a new contract. He believes Odegaard has a squad of players around him at Arsenal that can ‘elevate his qualities’
“It’s great news for the club and for the team. I’m really happy for him, he deserves it,” Arteta told a pre-match press conference ahead of Arsenal’s north London derby clash with Spurs this weekend.
“There are many ways to make it and many pathways to make it. I think he’s found his place where he is loved and respected by everybody.
“Players don’t have to look for a ceiling but look to be better every day and be humble. If you have players around you to make you better that is a big bonus and I think the players around him elevate his qualities.”
