Arsenal receive Declan Rice injury boost

Arsenal have received an injury boost after scans revealed that Declan Rice has not suffered serious injury during Sunday’s north London Derby.

Rice was withdrawn at half-time of the 2-2 with Tottenham at the Emirates after complaining of discomfort in his back. The midfielder has since undergone scans to examine the extent of the issue, which have revealed that Rice has sustained no major issue.

Sky Sports are reporting that the 24-year-old is not expected to feature as Arsenal take on Brentford in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening, but could return in time to face Bournemouth in the Premier League this weekend.

That news will come as a major boost to Mikel Arteta, with Arsenal set to face Manchester City in a huge showdown on October 8.

Mikel Arteta had provided an update on Rice’s fitness following the draw with Spurs and admitted it was ‘strange’ for the midfielder to come off.

“He had a back injury. He was really uncomfortable during the match,” Arteta said.

“We had to take him out. We have to assess him. It’s strange for someone like him to come off.”

Rice has impressed for the Gunners since signing from West Ham in a £105 club record deal during the summer transfer window.
