Thomas Frank has said he is ‘proud’ of the journey David Raya has taken to the top of the Premier League, as Brentford prepare to face Arsenal in the Carabao Cup.
Raya signed on loan for Arsenal from Brentford during the summer, with an option to make the move permanent for a fee of £27m.
The Spanish shot-stopper has displaced Aaron Ramsdale from the Arsenal side and has started the Gunners’ last three fixtures in all competitions, ahead of a reunion with the Bees on Wednesday evening.
Raya made 161 appearances across four seasons at Brentford and formed part of the club’s rise from the second tier into the Premier League, with Frank discussing his pride at the path the goalkeeper has taken to the top.
“I like David so much and I am so pleased he has played the last three games for Arsenal and I think he has done very well,” the Brentford boss said at his pre-match press conference.
“For us as a club it is fantastic that we have developed a player from the Championship to the top of the League.
“I am very proud of his journey and hopefully we continue to do that with others. If he plays tomorrow, I will welcome him back, if not, I will do the same.”
