Arsenal and Chelsea consider player-plus-cash Toney offers

Arsenal and Chelsea are considering offering players in exchange as the duo weigh up moves to sign Brentford forward Ivan Toney.

Toney is a target for the London rivals who are each keen to sign a centre-forward during the January transfer window, though Brentford’s valuation in excess of £60m makes a deal difficult given the spending of both clubs during the summer.

Toney is currently serving an eight-month suspension for breaching the FA’s gambling rules, but his ban has not dimmed interest in the 27-year-old who has scored 32 goals in 66 Premier League appearances for Brentford.

Thomas Frank this week said that he had no interest in selling the striker, but admitted the decision was out of his hands with Toney approaching the final 18 months of his contract in west London.

90min are reporting that player-plus-cash offers could arrive from Arsenal and Chelsea, in a bid to bring down the asking price of the forward.

Eddie Nketiah has been named as one potential makeweight for the Gunners in recent weeks, despite a strong start to the season at Arsenal which saw the 24-year-old earn a first England call up earlier this month.

Brentford are believed to be considering options should Toney depart and are interested in Wolfsburg forward Jonas Wind. The Denmark international has started the new season in superb form with six goals in five appearances across all competitions.
