Arsenal and Chelsea are ‘both informed on the potential conditions’ of a deal to sign Brentford forward Ivan Toney.
Toney is a transfer target for the London rivals and is keen to leave Brentford in search of a new challenge.
The 27-year-old has scored 32 goals in 66 league appearances since Brentford’ promotion to the Premier League, form which has seen Toney break into Gareth Southgate’s plans with England. Arsenal and Chelsea are both interested in a deal to sign the striker, despite his current eight-month suspension for breaching the FA’s gambling rules.
Fabrizio Romano has reported that Toney – who will have just 18 months to run on his contract in January – has informed Brentford of his desire to try a ‘different opportunity’ in 2024 and the forward recently changed agents ahead of a potential move.
Toney scored 20 goals in the Premier League last season, with only Erling Haaland and Harry Kane outscoring the Bees forward.
Arsenal and Chelsea have both asked to be kept informed on the conditions of a deal, which differ dependent on whether offers are made in January or next summer.
Toney will be free to resume playing on January 16 and will be targeting a strong end to the campaign, as the forward looks to secure his place in the England squad for next summer’s European Championship, should the Three Lions confirm qualification.
