Chelsea could be forced to listen to offers for Ian Maatsen during the January transfer window with no progress made on a contract extension.
Maatsen is out of contract at the end of the campaign and there has been no breakthrough on a new deal for the 21-year-old, who turned down a transfer to Burnley during the summer window.
Maatsen had shone on loan at Burnley last season as the Clarets won promotion to the Premier League, but rejected the chance to move to Turf Moor on a permanent basis despite Chelsea accepting a £31.5m bid on deadline day.
The Dutchman has made six appearances in all competitions for Chelsea this season and his versatility is a useful asset to Mauricio Pochettino’s squad, but the Telegraph are reporting that the failure to reach an agreement on new terms means the west Londoners could be forced into a January sale.
Maatsen is expected to feature in the club’s upcoming games with both Reece James and Malo Gusto sidelined, while Ben Chilwell is also awaiting a scan on a hamstring injury.
The full-back – who can also operate further forward – was named in the EFL Championship Team of the Season in 2022/23 as Burnley won the second-tier title.
