Klopp excited by potential of Liverpool this season

Jurgen Klopp admits he is excited by the potential of his new look Liverpool team this season after the club’s unbeaten start to the campaign.

Liverpool are second in the Premier League table after winning five and drawing one of their opening six fixtures. The Reds are currently on a run of seven straight wins in all competitions, ahead of a tricky test at Tottenham this weekend.

Klopp believes a solid pre-season has been behind Liverpool’s strong start and says he is looking forward to seeing how good his side can become.

“We had a good pre-season with a lot of players together, that is the main reason,” he said at his pre-match press conference.

“That helps, definitely. Getting results in moments recently that may have gone the other way in previous years.

“Individually, their quality is good, the potential is there. The group is open for many things. This is a new start, year one for this team. We have created a basis and used it. We don’t know how good we are, how stable this is, but we’ve had good moments.”

Klopp confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold is in contention to feature at Spurs, but Stefan Bajcetic and Thiago Alcantara are out.

“Trent [Alexander-Arnold] trained yesterday and will train today. We have to make a decision. It looks like he can play. Stefan [Bajcetic] has had a little setback, we have to be careful; he’s got a little calf issue. Thiago is still out.”
