Man United confirm Antony return amid allegations

Manchester United have confirmed that Antony will return to training with the squad and is available for selection, following his period of leave amid domestic violence allegations.

Antony was dropped from the Brazil squad last month after allegations of domestic abuse made against the 23-year-old by an ex-girlfriend.

United handed the winger a period of leave in the wake of claims, with two further women since coming forward with accusations against Antony.

United have now released a statement on Antony – who is understood to be cooperating with enquiries – and have confirmed the Brazilian will return to training.

“Since allegations were first made in June, Antony has co-operated with police inquiries in both Brazil and the UK, and he continues to do so,” a club statement read.

“As Antony’s employer, Manchester United has decided that he will resume training at Carrington, and be available for selection, while police inquiries proceed. This will be kept under review pending further developments in the case.

“As a club, we condemn acts of violence and abuse. We recognise the importance of safeguarding all those involved in this situation, and acknowledge the impact these allegations have on survivors of abuse.”
