Pochettino says Chelsea working on January deals

Mauricio Pochettino has said Chelsea are working on deals to strengthen the squad in the January transfer window.

Chelsea have spent more than £1 billion on new players across the last three transfer windows, with owner Todd Boehly having invested record-breaking sums into the squad at Stamford Bridge.

However, Chelsea have struggled for results amid the mass changes at the club and have won just once in their opening six Premier League games, scoring just five goals.

Pochettino believes his side are in need of ‘more goals’ and hinted at forward additions in the January transfer window.

“I think the football [we are playing] is very dynamic and now we have to work on the recovery of [injured players], like Nkunku to help us have more goals and be more solid,” Pochettino told a press conference ahead of Chelsea’s clash with Fulham on Monday evening.

“But of course, we already start to work [on January].”

Cole Palmer could be in line to make his first Premier League start for the Blues against Fulham, having impressed during the Carabao Cup win against Brighton in midweek.

The £42.5m signing from Manchester City assisted Nicolas Jackson’s winner and Pochettino said Palmer is in his thinking for Monday’s game.

“I am so happy with his performance in a few weeks with us. I think he is a young, talented player but in my mind there [is a chance] he could start on Monday.”
