Pep Guardiola has refuted suggestions that Manchester City are showing complacency after back-to-back losses.
City’s perfect start to the Premier League season ended with a 2-1 defeat at Wolves, the club’s second loss in a row after exiting the Carabao Cup at Newcastle in midweek.
Hwang Hee-chan hit a second-half winner for Wolves, who troubled City on the counter-attack throughout at Molineux. The South Korean’s goal restored Wolves’ lead after Julian Alvarez’s free-kick for City had cancelled out an early Ruben Dias own goal.
Guardiola said his side did not deal with the ‘transition’ of Wolves, who ended a run of six straight losses to Citizens.
“There are ten players and they transition well. We were well set up but we did not defend properly these situations. They beat us in the one v one and that is not good and we have to do it properly,” Guardiola told the BBC.
“We have to do more but even when we win we have to do more.”
Guardiola was asked whether his side had shown complacency in recent performances, having gone behind in four of their last five fixtures, but refuted the suggestion.
“You have to ask other people what they think about that [complacency].
“When you win four Carabao Cups in a row and the Premier League and a Treble it is not complacency. Sometimes the players can do better than you and beat you and that is what you can do today.”
