Ten Hag admits Man United ‘have to catch up’ after ‘bad start’

Erik ten Hag admits Manchester United ‘have to catch up’ in the Premier League table after a ‘bad start to the season’.

The Red Devils suffered a fourth Premier League defeat in their opening seven games of the season after losing 1-0 at home to Crystal Palace.

Ten Hag’s team had beaten Crystal Palace 3-0 in convincing fashion in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening, but fell to a second successive Premier League loss at Old Trafford as Joachim Andersen fired home the only goal of the game for the visitors.

Defeat confirmed Manchester United’s worst start to a league season in 34 years and Ten Hag has demanded improvement from his squad.

“It’s a bad start to the season. We have to catch up. We have to do better,” Ten Hag told BBC MOTD.

“This is not good enough. These players can do better in the final part [of the pitch].

“I’m very disappointed. If you concede three chances and one is in after bad defending….

“Our decisions on the ball were really poor. We often got into good positions but we were not clinical enough. The decision making was not good enough. The final pass, extra pass, shot or whatever…”

Manchester United return to action at home to Galatasaray in the Champions League’s group stages on Tuesday evening.
